Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit coaster coming to Universal Studios Florida in 2009
Wednesday, March 19, 2008 8:52 AM ET | contributed by Jeff

The Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit is planned to be big, bright and brash enough to become the new visual symbol for the Universal Studios Florida theme park when the coaster opens in about a year. Universal Orlando officials said Tuesday that it also will feature enough digital technology to appeal directly to what they refer to as the "YouTube culture." Universal Orlando officials said the coaster will rise 167 feet into the air and feature numerous loops and corkscrew turns. Rockit -- the first big, outdoor thrill ride for Universal Studios -- is set to open in spring 2009.

Woo hoo!

Sounds kind of cheesy, but it definitely will be something to check into in 2009! Any idea on whom the manufacturer will be?

Sounds like you'll get a headache in line. Then again, you can say the same thing about Riddler's Revenge at Magic Mountain.

Did I get this right? It will run around city walk? If so, cool idea. Perhaps they'll do the same thing in Hollywood if that's possible (I'll have to hop on Google Earth in a sec).

(yup...it's possible)

No, it sounds like the extent of the City Walk piece will run parallel to the Blue Man Group theater sidewalk out and over near the globe. I'd be surprised if it crossed the water over the docks and toward NASCAR Cafe.

Looks like a Gerslauer. Its going to run up to and next to Citywalk, most likely not around it.

Jeff is probably right. It will probably stay on the same side of the water. It would be kinda cool however if it went over the water and turned around over the main plaza.

From the drawing, it look like a Maurer-Sohne X-Car type ride.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's an X-Car type, just looking at the trains and the rough layout.

I have also heard it to be an x-car coaster.
Cory Patrick (Edit)     3/19/2008 5:05:42 PM
Universal filed permits that listed Maurer-Sohne on them...

Crap! An Intamin is desperately needed down there, IMHO.

Sounds pretty cool, especially the City Walk part. Funny, I was just there a couple of weeks ago.

Seems like the end of 2009 or early 2010 is definetly the time to head down to Orlando... The Harry Potter themed area, new coaster for Universal, new coaster for Sea World, Space Mountain being refurbished, and possibly a new coaster for Hollywood Studios, new parades, etc.... Definetly marking two weeks off on my calander. haha

I'm already pumped for Halloween Horror Nights 18 I can't even fathom how sweet HHN 19 will be with the new coaster in, assuming it will be held in the universal park that year. But regardless awesome looking ride!
