Cedar Fair still biggest obstacle for new 49ers stadium

Capping nine months of intensive study, Santa Clara's city staff delivered its verdict Friday on a proposed stadium for the San Francisco 49ers: Go forward - with some reservations. Foremost among the hurdles is Great America's owner, Ohio-based Cedar Fair Entertainment, which controls the lease to the city-owned land where the stadium would be built. Cedar Fair says an NFL stadium next door would hurt the theme park, but would be willing to discuss a stadium on its overflow lot.

It never fails to amaze me when they talk about deals like this, how they can dismiss differences in funding of millions of dollars like it's pocket change. The city and the 49ers are 51 million apart in their proposals, but no big deal. I guess they'll just find the difference in the sofa cushions.
